Another Weekend in McCall

Please don’t read the title and think I’m ungrateful. It’s meant to be read as wow, I’m so lucky for another weekend in McCall! Yes, it is true, I’ve been lucky to have had so many weekends in McCall and Brundage this winter. McCall, Idaho with Brundage Mtn. is truly one of the most beautiful places I have ever spent time in. Every time I’m there, something catches my breath and I’m reminded of what a magical little place it is.

Brundage Mtn. has some of the best snow in the country (so I’m told from people all over), and I love that it’s only 3.5 hours from my front door. There are quite a few Mtns within 4 hours of me and I spend all my time there.

Have I mentioned the drive yet? Next time I drive down and back I’ll do a photo journal of the trip. Hopefully it will still be pretty snowy. The topography changes at least 4 different times and there’s a section that rarely gets snow in the winter – crazy!

There’s an area where you are driving through a section of mountains just south of Riggins and the road follows the Little Salmon River. In the winter time this little creek always looks so beautiful with the snow piled on the stones and boulders.I always want to take stop and take photos and this time I did. It’s hard in the winter because the snow plows don’t plow out the pullout areas so there’s normally no where to stop. I found a spot and ran up the road a bit to get a few photos. David was in the car and humored me by getting out and enjoying the sunshine while I ran up the road hoping a truck didn’t drive by and spray me with melted dirty snowy highway water.

Here a few pics for your enjoyment. Needless to say, the area we were able to stop at different have the sun at the right angle, nor were there a lot of snowy boulders. It’s all good though.

I remained splatter free and we got back in the wagon and carried on north. A little while later I decided I wanted to go to Shorts Bar, which is the first beach up on the Salmon River Rd. along the Salmon River. This is typically a put-in for some of the rafting companies running whitewater trips. This is actually the beach my Dad and I launched from few years ago when I took him on his first whitewater rafting ride. Dang, I just looked for a photo of that trip and I don’t have one on this computer :(

Anyhoo, here are a few photos from snowy covered Shorts Bar. This was the first time I stepped foot of a snowy beach before. Oh, and at this point, I think David is starting to enjoy my little detours, although I don’t think he’d admit it :)

I had a great time on the mountain and really enjoyed my drives joking around with David. Thanks Blue for being a good co-pilot! I promise I’ll do a little photo journal of the drive from McCall to Moscow since its usually light when I drive back versus heading down on Friday nights.
